4 foolish types of atheism

Atheism may be defined as a system of thought that denies the existence of God. Yet, most people worldwide believe in Theism, the belief in God. Even Albert Einstein and many intellectuals concluded that the rational explanation of the universe’s existence is that God created it.

The core of evolutionary atheism is that all life itself is random and everything in the universe drifts on infinite probabilities of chance through natural selection. Atheism alleges that the material universe and all life result from things being at the right place at the right time. However, atheists themselves can’t agree about the universe and life itself.

Atheism is not new to mankind. And there are different types of atheists and their philosophies.

Declared atheism.

Atheists mock those who put their faith in God, especially Christians. They believe that life is a blip that appears and disappears forever. They think that the universe exists without purpose since life only sprang up by chance.

On the other hand, declared atheism is bold and aggressive with the mission to erase the name of God. The declared atheist tries to rewrite history and continue to blot out the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. However, they fail to realize that they only exist because of the mercy and goodness of God.

It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
Lamentations 3:22

Since atheists blatantly reject God and the Bible, they force themselves to believe in the folly of evolution. Survival of the fittest is their mandate. Their morals only exist if society chooses to set a standard. If the unborn are easily discarded, what about the elderly, crippled, mentally ill, and the deformed? This is not an exaggeration as to their view of life. From an atheist’s point of view, life is cheap, especially for those who cannot contribute to society.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Genesis 1:27

The Bible declares that humanity is created in the image of God. However, it doesn’t mean that humanity shares the form or the nature of the Lord our God.

The declared atheist is a fool (Proverbs 26:12.) He declares that there’s no proof of God’s existence. But all he needs to do is to look around and behold the creation of the creator God (Psalms 19:1.)

Covert atheism.

The covert atheist keeps his thought to himself except for a few people in his circle. Those who are involved in covert atheism are active in supporting atheism but hidden from the general public.

They may disguise themselves as servants of righteousness going around universities, colleges, and other institutions where they can influence others with their atheistic views. These people are highly intelligent. They see themselves as bearers of truth and are above even most intellectuals.

Even David mentions that the atheist does not openly declare his unbelief towards God, but does it in his heart. We may conclude that the covert atheist remains in the shadows so that he is able to move among all levels of society. He moves undetected in government agencies, educational disciplines, and powerful corporations. He penetrates mostly every area of life because he is undetected.

Doubting atheism.

The doubting atheist’s philosophy is that there is no absolute truth in God’s existence. In other words, they do not fully commit to the truth that God exists, nor do they commit to the folly that God doesn’t exist.

His arrogance rises in mocking God by asking questions such as, “Why does God allows so much suffering around the world if He exists?” He is a scoffer without the depth of commitment. He doesn’t den the Lord but neither does he acknowledge Him. In spite of the natural, and rational proofs of God’s existence, he chooses to believe in his philosophy of uncertainty.

The doubting atheist is no better than the declared and covert atheist. He has rejected the natural revelation of God through creation (Psalms 19:1,) and in his conscience (Romans 2:14-15.) He cannot escape the judgment of God because he called God a liar.

Practical atheism.

Practical atheism believes in God in an intellectual aspect. The practical atheist knows and believes that God exists but lives his life as if God doesn’t exist.

While the practical atheist acknowledges God, he does not acknowledge God’s word as his final authority. He does not decide on moral issues based on the Bible. On the contrary, the Bible is subject to what he believes is intellectually correct. In other words, he thinks that the Bible is secondary to human reasoning.

Many practical atheists are drawn to churches that don’t preach against sin. They love the feeling of going to church, but they have never gone to Christ.
