The Bible tells us that without Christ, nothing would exist. This is true because Christ is the creator of all. Since He is the creator of all, Christ reigns over all creation.
Deism believes God is impersonal and gives no divine or supernatural revelation. In other words, God does not care. They think that God created everything and decided to leave everything to its destruction.
However, the Bible is proof that God cares for us. He gave us a clear revelation of who He is and instructions on how to seek him. Therefore, if you want to know how much God cares about you, read the Bible.
Christ reigns over all the natural forces of the universe.
16For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
Colossians 1:16-17
Not only did Christ create everything, but He also sustains everything. Notice how close we are to the asteroid belt, yet no giant asteroid has hit us at an extinction level. This is because Christ rules over the celestial heavens. This is a testament to His power. Not only did He create everything, but He also sustains everything.
Christ reigns over the celestial heavens.
What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
Psalms 8:4
With over 500 billion galaxies that consist of trillions of stars and planets each, it is almost impossible to understand the great expanse of the universe. This shows us how man is insignificant throughout creation.
But God chose to love us even though we are insignificant. When we realize our insignificance in the vastness of the universe, then we must have the desire to seek our Creator.
Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name:
Amos 5:8
Christ reigns over the terrestrial world.
Christ had broken many scientific laws, showing Christ reigns over the terrestrial world. He broke the law of gravity in His ascension. He broke the law of buoyancy when He walked on water. He broke the law of diminishing returns when He fed the 5000. But the best example that Christ reigns over the terrestrial world was when they were in the Sea of Galilee.
Because Christ reigns over all creation, He can’t be confined by the laws of physics. The creator will always be superior to the creation. In His humanity as the Incarnate God, He experienced all human difficulties. However, His divinity is displayed because He did not sin. Christ is beyond physical and cannot be confined by the laws of physics.
38And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? 39And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? 41And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
Mark 4:38-41
Notice that the disciples were fearful of the storm. But when they saw Christ’s power over the storm, they started to fear Him. We know that Christ rules over the celestial heavens and the terrestrial world. Therefore we must fear Him.
Christ reigns over all living creatures.
The ten plagues in Egypt demonstrate God’s power over all living things (frogs, bacteria, flies, locusts, and even cattle.) The book of Job even shows us that God has animals under his control.
Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down?
Job 41:1
18By his neesings a light doth shine, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning. 19Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out. 20Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron. 21His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth.
Job 41:18-21
Christ reigns over all the supernatural forces in the universe.
This is about the spirit world. Evil angels and holy angels are among us but are unseen. There are instances when we fear God’s creation more than God. These are instances of misplaced fear. We must fear Christ since He created the things seen and unseen, both the natural and supernatural.
Christ reigns over evil angels.
23And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, 24Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God. 25And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. 26And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him. 27And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him.
Mark 1:23-27
Demons know who the Lord Jesus Christ is. They tremble at Him and fear Him. They obey and submit to Him. The irony is that believers who know the Lord Jesus Christ as King of kings and Lord of lords but refuse to submit to Him.
Christ reigns over holy angels.
6Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; 7And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 8In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
2 Thessalonians 1:6-8
14And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant? 15And the captain of the LORD’S host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.
Joshua 5:14-15
This is an Old Testament appearance of the Lord Jesus Christ. Joshua bowed down to worship the captain of the LORD’s army. If this were an angel, he would have refused the worship of Joshua just as the angel refused the worship of John (Revelation 22:8-9.)
Demons fear Christ and Holy Angels are under His command. This shows that Christ reigns over the supernatural world.
Christ reigns over Hell.
Satan does not rule Hell. This belief started in John Milton’s book Paradise Lost. Where Satan says, “It is better to reign in Hell than to serve in Heaven.” This statement is believed by many Christians nowadays.
However, this is not what the Bible teaches. Christ will cast Satan into the lake of fire, not to rule but to be tormented for eternity.
Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
Matthew 25:41
God is the creator of Hell. Therefore, Christ reigns over it. Hell is the destination of the devil, his demons, and the unsaved. It is a place of torment, and nobody will enjoy Hell, including the Devil.
Christ shall reign over the world for a thousand years.
1And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 2And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, 3And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season. 4And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
Revelation 20:1-4
Amillennialists believe we live in the millennial kingdom. Their belief is characterized by the simultaneous experiences of gospel victory and suffering for the gospel by the church in the present instead of a literal reign of Christ here on earth after the tribulation. They believe it is a symbolic reign since Christ is already in Heaven.
This belief, started by Augustine, cannot be accurate. He said that the millennial reign started on Christ’s first coming. If Augustine’s teaching were true, the millennial reign should have ended in the 11th century, a thousand years ago.
Christ shall reign in the eternal state.
1And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 4And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. 5And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
Revelation 21:1-5
Christ reigns for eternity. This means that even now, He controls everything happening worldwide, including your life. No matter how difficult life can be, whether problems, persecution, betrayals, and disappointment comes, we know that in the end, we will be victorious because Christ is victorious.
